A great deal of Montana's Parrot & Exotic Bird
Sanctuary's efforts is directed at educating the public about the issues surrounding parrots in captivity as well as their wild counterparts.
Montana's Parrot & Exotic Bird Sanctuary's ultimate goal is to avoid the need to have sanctuaries by educating people on the complicated social and physical needs of birds and teaching appreciation of animals in their native environment.
We also offer Animal-assisted therapy programs to our communities. Animal-assisted therapy is a type of therapy that involves an animal with specific characteristics becoming a fundamental part of a person's treatment. Animal-assisted therapy is designed to improve the physical, social, emotional and/or cognitive functioning of the patient, as well as provide educational and motivational effectiveness for participants.

Additional adoption info
All information requested on the adoption application is vital in successfully determining the best match between you and a companion bird. Once you have completed the application and submitted it to MPEBS, we will process your application.
All applications are reviewed and processed according to our Adoption Policy, which involves reviewing our database for a suitable companion bird, performing reference checks, contacting you if we require clarification or more information and arranging a home visit with you.
We will contact you to arrange the "initial home visit". The initial home visit serves a dual purpose; it allows you to ask more in-depth questions about the bird you are interested in and it allows us to determine whether your choice is appropriate for your environment and family. An example would be: if you lived in an apartment, a cockatoo may not be the right choice as they are well known for their vocalizations and can be quite loud. We would then suggest a more appropriate bird. All members of the family should participate in this visit.
If the initial home visit has been a success, A cash payment of the adoption fee will occur at this time. The Adoption Contract you signed is very specific. The bird(s) cannot be used for breeding purposes, cannot be sold, traded, or given away. The bird must be returned to MPEBS if, for any reason, you can no longer keep the bird for any reason and MPEBS will find another suitable home for the bird.
At the conclusion of our "initial home visit", we will be able to determine whether the bird is for you and whether we should proceed with the adoption process. Please keep in mind a bird is not for everyone and we have a responsibility to make the appropriate decision for the well-being of the individuals concerned as well as the bird being considered for adoption.
The Adoption Contract also states that an adoptive home MUST keep MPEBS posted of any change of address and phone number for as long as the bird resides with them. We require this information because it allows us to follow up periodically to ensure everything is going well or to check to see if there is any assistance we can provide you.
