Rescue FAQs

Tampa Pets Alive! is an organization that is dedicated to saving adoptable animals from needless euthanasia at local shelters and placing them into loving homes. There is an overabundance of perfectly happy, healthy, and well-adjusted animals being euthanized everyday in our community because they weren't able to find a home fast enough.

We pull animals almost exclusively from kill shelters in the Tampa Bay area (mostly Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Manatee, and Pinellas counties). While we wish we could save animals all throughout the state, we feel that effective rescue starts in your own community.

Our long term goal is for the Tampa Bay area to achieve a "No More Homeless Pets" or "No-Kill" status.

Additional adoption info

Step 1: Determine if your lifestyle can accomodate a pet. If you rent, check any pet restrictions. Consider the cost of food, supplies, veterinary bills, and other necessities.
Step 2: Determine what characteristics you are looking for in a pet. Do you want an active or laid-back dog? An "in-your-face, lovey dovey" dog or an independent one?
Step 3: Pick a pet!
Step 4: Contact us and fill out an application. We will put you in contact with your pet's foster parent and see if it would be a good match. If it isn't, we will refer you to a pet that might be a better match.
Step 5: Meet & Greet and Adoption! We will schedule a time that is good for both adopter and foster to meet. The adopter needs to bring any existing dogs so they can meet on neutral territory to make sure everyone gets along well. If all goes well, you can take your new pet home that day (in most cases)!
