The Alaska Dog & Puppy Rescue (ADPR) was originally formed as a Rescue organization to help meet the needs of the Mat-Su Valley and its pet overpopulation problem. Although we focus more heavily on rescues in the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage, we work in connection with village rescue groups and air freight companies saving numerous dogs in the Bush and other outlying areas.
As an all-volunteer organization it hasn’t been easy, but thanks to hundreds of dedicated and compassionate volunteers ADPR has continued to grow and succeed.
We continue to rescue every week from the Mat-Su Borough Animal Shelter and Houston Animal Control, as well as the unexpected litters we take in from the public.
Since our beginning in 2003, ADPR has rescued and placed nearly 1,000 dogs a year. All of our animals are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped and kept in foster care until the right forever home is found for them.
We have a number of goals, big and small. We will continue to rescue, advocate and educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering. One of our goals is to be an asset not only to our rescued dogs and puppies but also to our community. We strive to be advocates for dogs in our community and elsewhere, and to educate the public on responsible pet ownership.

All of our available dogs have been spayed or neutered, are current on their age-appropriate shots, are microchipped, and receive a health vet check when necessary.
All of our adult dogs have been rescued from the Mat-Su, Houston, and Anchorage animal shelters. Each of our dogs and puppies stay with a foster family, where they are integrated into family life and are treated like one of the family. Our dogs are not kenneled all day, and they receive one-on-one attention and training.
Additional adoption info
Puppies 4 months and under are $220
Dogs and Puppies 5 months and up are $180
Small Breed Dogs are $260
Our dogs can be adopted at one of our adoption clinics or in the home of the foster family.
Our volunteers try to match dogs/puppies with potential adopters that are well-suited for the needs of the dog. When seemingly equivalent adoptive homes may be available, ADPR will operate on a first come, first serve basis. We will only adopt to adults 21 years of age or older who have approprate housing for the breed, size, care requirements and time to spend with the dog on a regular basis. They must agree to abide by all landlord and homeowner association rules including number, breed and size of pets permitted. ADPR reserves the right to visit the adoptive home before or after placement of the dog.
All adopters must complete a satisfactory adoption interview and required paperwork. ADPR reserves the right to deny an adoption if the match does not seem appropriate.
