Whispering Winds Animal Sanctuary is a 501c3 non-profit organization - formerly Whispering Winds Equine Rescue - however, we no longer rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome. Rather, we are a long term retirement sanctuary for both wild and domestic horses that call the ranch home. Many of our equine residents are senior citizens that range from early 20's to nearly 35 years of age. Others have disabilities that prevent them from being ridden and deemed unplaceable. Quite a few are mustangs that have been turned out and are allowed to roam in as natural a setting as possible. These horses have come from abused, neglected, abandoned, seized, slaughter-bound, and owner surrendered situations.
We believe that every animal has a right to life so we do not euthanize to control but allow these horses to roam freely and live out their lives in a safe and peaceful environment. It is our mission to help as many as we can, and although we may not have room at the ranch, we continue to network and work with several other organizations in rescuing, placing, fostering, and transporting both dogs & horses. We believe that working together with other rescues and rescue organizations opens up more possibilities to assure animals are given a better chance to that wonderful life.
We rely solely on donations to run this sanctuary and are not government funded in any way. We have no administration or board member fees or costs as volunteers supply this help. All donations go directly to the horses!

Whispering Winds Ranch is a no-kill animal welfare organization that provides a safe haven for equine, wild and domestic, dogs, cats, and bovine. Our main ranch houses close to 40 horses that have been rescued from various situations, primarily slaughter bound, and is a sanctuary facility allowing these animals to retire. We have 5 rescued dogs, specializing in Belgian Malinois, that are also permanent residents, and numerous feral and rescued cats.
Our horse rescue facility, Chilly Pepper Miracle Mustang Rescue, is located in Shingletown, CA. Specializing in newborn and/or orphan foals but makes room for fostering other horses in transition to finding permanent homes.
Our dog rescue, the Woofproject, is located in Vancouver, WA and specializes in the rescue and placement of Belgian Malinois.
Together we cover the Northwest, Nevada, and California through our rescue and adoption efforts.
Additional adoption info
Every adopter will have a public records/background check. Some things that may or may not affect your eligibility are:
1) Criminal history - including but not limited to abuse/neglect.
2) Evictions - these show your stability. Will you be evicted and have to dump your horse at the auction?
3) Fines, fees, judgments owed. Really, if you can’t feed yourself and pay your bills, can’t you afford a dog or horse?
Base adoption fees vary depending on the animal.
