Rescue FAQs

Southern California Pomeranian Rescue

The Southern California Pomeranian Rescue, also known as SCPR and So Cal Pom Rescue, is a group of compassionate volunteers dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned pomeranias. The Southern California Pomeranian Rescue does not have a shelter and relies on a small group of volunteers to foster the pomeranians until they can find a FURever home for them. Without these dedicated volunteers many of the Pomeranians they rescued from kill shelters and the streets would be killed. The mission of the Southern California Pomeranian Rescue is to save as many Pomeranians as they can from abandonment and euthanasia.
Every rescued pomeranian has a story. Some are found on the streets cold, starving, and injured, others are relinquished by their owners because they no longer have the means to care for them, and many are saved from euthanasia from kill shelters. Fortunately, because of the Southern California Pomeranian Rescue these dogs won’t be among the thousands that are abandoned, abused, and euthanized every day.

Southern California Pomeranian Rescue is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. As a non-profit, they rely on the generosity of dog lovers to assist them in continuing their mission of saving dogs in need. Every dollar raised provides care, medical services, and an opportunity for an animal to have a second chance at a new and wonderful life.

The Southern California Pomeranian Rescue is always in need of…

Dog Food and Supplies – Crates, leashes, harnesses, collars, toys, blankets, food, and dog bowls.

The one thing the Southern California Pomerania Rescue needs the most is loving, compassionate people to give these beautiful animals a FURever home. Currently, we have adoption events in Los Angeles and Orange County; however, we do service all of Southern California and in some instances out of state.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is quite simple. We request an application, home visit and a signed contract upon completion of the adoption. We do allow a week to have the dog live with you in your home before the adotion is finalized.

Frequently asked questions:

1) DO YOU SHIP OUT OF STATE/COUNTRY?

Yes we can send ADOPTED Poms (Not Fosters) out of state but it is highly subject to local rescues doing a home inspection and your veterinary reference. Transport out of state has to be arranged by the adopter. Typically adopters fly in and carry them on the plane home. You are looking at $100-500 adoption fees, $40 a crate, $50 health cert and about $300 for your dogs flight. You can call Delta or American to get prices. Transport costs are case by case especially depending on your timing of booking the flight for your dog.

We do not adopt out of the country at this time. Unfortunately with animal rights not being what they are in this country, and the inability to preform our inspections and reference checks we cannot make exceptions to this regulation.

2) HOW DO I GET AN ADOPTION/FOSTER APPLICATION?

There are a few ways you can obtain a Form. Once you do, you can Copy n Paste the form on to a new email and then email us or print it out and snail mail or fax it to us. Here's where you can find the Form:

FACEBOOK - At our FILES Link under our Profile picture or click here http://www.facebook.com/SoCalPomRescue?sk=app_72880082540

SCPR WEBSITE - On our Adoptions page or Fostering page http://www.southerncaliforniapomeranianrescue.org/Available_For_Adoption.html

3) HOW MUCH ARE YOUR DOGS?

Adoption donations are between $100 and $500 depending on age. This is to help with the cost of transporting them, providing them with medical care and sometimes lengthy kennel costs amongst other things. These Pomeranian's have been rescued from kill shelters and surrender situations. ALL of our Pommies are pre-screened for behavioral, temperament, and health conditions prior to placement in a forever home through our Vet's. This includes being spayed/neutered and microchipped.

4) WHERE CAN I SEE PICTURES OF DOGS FOR ADOPTION OR IN NEED OF FOSTERING?

We are SO glad you asked. You can see dogs available under our Photos Tab on Facebook, and on our website:

AVAILABLE: http://www.southerncaliforniapomeranianrescue.org/Available_For_Adoption.html

5) ARE YOU A NON-PROFIT?

Yes in 2009 we were recognized by the State of California as a Not-For-Profit entity.

6) I NEED TO FIND A HOME FOR MY POMERANIAN?

We will be able to take your Pommie and find a new loving home for him or her. Just fill out our Surrender Form found on our website (Contact Us page) or here in our Notes Tab section. Copy n Paste it on to a new email or snail mail us.

7) DO YOU HAVE "TEA CUP" POMERANIAN'S?

Per the American Pomeranian Club (APC)"... the average size of the Pomeranian is from 3 to 7 pounds, with the ideal weight for the show specimen being 4 to 6 pounds." So no, we do not as Tea Cup Pomeranian's do not exist. But certain breeders on-line and in the papers will tell you they do in order to sell you 3-4 lb Pommie claiming it to be a "Tea Cup". The APC does not recognize the "Tea Cup" class and any reputable breeder (With a Guarantee) will not have a "Tea Cup" in their litters. We do not have Tea Cups, but on occasion we do get small Pommies as little as 3lbs. Keep checking back or contact us!
