Boondocks Dog Rescue

Dog rescue in Brighton, TN

We are a small group of fosters that are helping the abandoned, homeless and relinquished dogs of the Mid-South before it is too late. We serve as a place for a dog to be safe, to receive necessary vetting, nutrition, love, care and to learn a few house manors to help prepare them for a new home. We also get them the exposure they need to be seen by potential adopters all over the United States through the use of the internet.

Rescue FAQs

We serve the Mid-South (SW Tennessee, NW Mississippi and Part of Arkansas) but adoptions are available ANYWHERE in the continental United States.

Additional adoption info

All dogs/puppies are up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations and vetting:
-minimum of two da2ppvl+cv (distemper, adenovirus type-2, parainfluenza, parvovirus, leptospirosis, coronavirus)
-bordetella vaccine (kennel cough)
-rabies vaccine (if over 16 wks of age)
-spayed/neutered (absolutely NO dogs will be allowed to go to an adopter without being altered first so pleae don't ask).
-the receipt of a monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
-they have either tested negative for heartworms, or have been treated for heartworms if they had previously tested positive (this will be disclosed in the interview process and all proof on paper will be provided from a licensed veterinarian).
-worming done bi-weekly up until 12 wks of age and once a month after that.

For out of state adoptions all dogs/puppies must receive an Interstate Health Certificate. This is basically a physical and a fecal exam done by a licensed veterinarian. A health certificate helps to make sure the dog/puppy does not have any contagious or infectious disease. They must pass a health certificate inspection, they will not be allowed to board a transport of any kind without this.

Local adoption fee is $175. Out of state adoption fee is $350, the reason for this extra fee is to cover the additional expense of the transport and the health certificate.

Once you have filled out an application and all of your references have been verified, you will be contacted by an adoption counselor within 2 days. Please be sure to thoroughly complete the application and verify that all information is correct before sending it. **As a courtesy, an e-mail will be sent to non-approved applicants so please be sure to provide a current/active email address in case this situation arises. If you are approved and live locally, a meet and greet can be set up. If the adoption is long distance then please be prepared to spend a good deal of time on the phone with an adoption counselor and/or the foster parent(s) of the pooch you are applying for. Many times the adoption counselor and foster parent are the same.
After the application has been processed and the interview has taken place, if you decide to proceed with the adoption, an adoption contract must be signed and given to the counselor or foster, either in-hand or electronically, before the pup can leave the care and possession of BDR or it's foster.

**Boondocks Dog Rescue has the right to refuse any applicant without disclosure as to why this decision has been made.

A BDR dog is expected to live IN a loving home and to be treated as a family member/best pal. Never to be cast aside as an outsider or tossed away like yesterday's trash. There must always be another meal, a dry comfortable place to sleep, daily exercise and stimulation, companionship, veterinary care and grooming when needed. Most importantly, we require that you agree to love your rescued dog/pup as unconditionally and as faithfully as it will love you!
