Altered Feral State is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization made up of volunteers dedicated to reducing the feral cat population through the only non-lethal method that is proven to work. That method is known as TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).
TNR is only the beginning. Just as important as spay and neuter is the removal of the kittens from the colonies while they are still young enough to be socialized. Feral kittens are removed from the colonies when the mother is just beginning to wean them. Often that means supplementing their feeding with a bottle, but usually not for more than a week or so.
All of our kittens are completely socialized and could not survive outdoors any longer. They have been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, treated for worms, ear mites, all parasites, spayed, neutered and vaccinated. All of our kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption in an effort to help reduce the cat population and be part of the solution, not the problem.
