PetitsPawz Cat Refuge of Montreal

Cat rescue in Montreal, QC

History:

Susan Mackasey founded PetitsPawz in October 2009 after her 17 year old cat went missing for one week. As she diligently searched for her own cat, Susan encountered hundreds of stray and feral cats during those seven days. Seeing a greater need for trap neuter and release (TNR) and having her own vision for a rescue, PetitsPawz was then founded.

Over the past three years, PetitsPawz has saved and sterilized over 400 cats. While most of the cats have been adopted into wonderful permanent homes, the adult feral cats were re-introduced into their respective colonies, where caring volunteers are currently feed them twice daily. Our passion does not end with cats! As a matter of fact, PetitsPawz has also rescued more than a dozen dogs that were all in emergency situations.

With the help of volunteers and friends, Susan’s vision of saving cats has come such a long way.

Our Mission:

PetitsPawz is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to saving cats throughout the island of Montreal. A foster-based rescue, PetitsPawz is run entirely by devoted volunteers. It was created with three specific goals in mind:

Cat refuge:
To provide shelter and medical care to stray, abandoned and abused cats, with the goal of finding caring adoptive families for them.

TNR (Trap, neuter, release):
Sterilizing, vaccinating and re-releasing feral cats back into their established colonies. This prevents further reproduction and the spread of diseases. Feral cats have had little or no contact with humans, and are therefore unable to be domesticated.

Education:
Education plays a key role in change. PetitsPawz provides resources and information to cat owners about general care, the importance of sterilization and veterinary care as well as keeping cats indoors.
Tens of thousands of animals are abandoned throughout Quebec each year. Our goal is to help reduce these numbers one cat at a time, while providing a forever, loving home for every cat that is in our care.
