Just A Touch Rescue - Cumberland Chapter

Dog rescue in Cumberland, RI

At Just A Touch Rescue we focus on "one dog". While we hope that through our efforts we can help as many dogs that need us (either through our care, or by spreading the word about puppy mills and animal abuse), our focus is on helping that one special dog that comes to us and needs us. We will never stop helping that "one dog" because the cost of the care is getting high, or it is taking too long, or there are other dogs that might need help.

Once we make a commitment to a dog, we will see it through - no matter how much money, how much time, how much care that "one dog" needs. Sadly there will always be animals that need our help. We would love to have the resources to help many, many dogs - and hope some day through hard work and donations to be able to help every dog that needs us. But no matter what, we will do what it takes to help that "one dog", and every dog, that comes into our care.

Rescue FAQs

Just a Touch Rescue is NOT a shelter. At this time, there is no facility you can visit. We have fosterhomes in RI, NY, and PA.

Additional adoption info

Please note that our adoption process is very strict and all of the stated requirements must be met. The adoption process takes an Average of 4 weeks to complete.

We require verifiable veterinary references. We will not adopt to any family or person who cannot provide a VET REFERENCE. At Just A Touch Rescue, we are dedicated to finding the best forever homes for the animals in our care and ensuring that their medical and emotional needs will always be met. Most of our dogs come from abusive and/or neglected pasts, and we do our best to ensure they will have a home that will understand the special needs of these animals. Often, the only objective and impartial information we have in order to make a good decision for the dogs and the applicants is a veterinary reference.

If renting your home, we require written permission from your landlord or a copy of your lease, stating that pets are allowed.

A visit to your home prior to adoption is always a requirement.

We require a minimum of two references (other than your vet).

The application must be filled out completely.

All animals will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption, unless medical needs prohibit. If an animal needs to be spayed/neutered after adoption, a spay/neuter contract (with a refundable deposit) must be completed.

All animals will be adopted in the New England/Northeast area only (RI, CT, MA, NH, VT, ME, NY, PA, NJ). Any transportation costs will be covered by adopting families. WE DO NOT SHIP OUR DOGS.

We reserve the right to deny an adoption to any home for any reason.

An adoption donation is mandatory.

You must be at least 25 years old.

Special considerations will be made for families experienced with special needs and abused animals.

Just a Touch Rescue does everything in its power to discover and treat any pre-existing medical conditions or illnesses, but cannot guarantee the health of an individual animal, post adoption.

Our adoption donation amounts are subject to change depending on the dog and/or situation.

Our adoption donation amounts vary based on many factors, but usually range from $400 to $500 for most of our dogs (CLICK HERE to see why).

We do not make "deals," adopt dogs to the highest bidders, or give discounts just because you are a great person. We pay for medical treatment, spaying, neutering, vaccinations, physicals, medications, and emergency surgeries and procedures. Sometimes we have to pay fees just to get the dogs released to our care. We do not make a profit, and our funds are always tight and we are usually in the "red" with vet bills that need to be paid. However, in some cases (dogs with special needs, seniors, etc.) we may lower adoption donation amounts.

If you have any questions, please Contact Us for more information.

If you are considering adopting one of our dogs rescued from a puppy mill, please go to the Puppy Mill Survivor page to read about typical puppy mill survivor traits and issues.
