The mission of the Mesabi Humane Society is to promote humane treatment through sheltering, alteration, adoption and community education. The Range Animal Shelter incorporated and became a non-profit organization in the fall of 1978. The name of the organization was changed to the Mesabi Humane Society in 1981, at which time we became a chapter of the Minnesota State Humane Society. All offices and duties of the society were housed by volunteers in their own homes. All money donated and raised during fund raising activities of the society was deposited into a special account specified for the building expenses of the shelter. In the spring of 1986, the construction of the shelter building began. The Humane Society owned and operated Range Animal center, opened the doors to the public for animal care in October 1986. This has all been possible because of the wonderful caring and generous people that live in the Iron Range. The Mesabi Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization
