Additional adoption info

All inquiries about Ratbone Rescues dogs MUST go through our applications team, who know where the dog is being fostered and the status of any pending applications. We go through a careful process to ensure that this will a permanent, loving relationship, both for you and for the "Rattie." Your patience and understanding are appreciated.

After you submit an application, we reply to let you know that we have received your application and have notified the fosterparent of the dog you are interested in. The fosterparent will contact you with detailed information about the dog. Feel free to ask questions and email back and forth as much as you like. In many cases, pictures can be emailed to you.

Meanwhile, our volunteers are processing your application. They will check your references and set up a home visit to verify that yours is a safe and suitable environment for a rescued Rat Terrier. This also gives you a chance to ask questions about rescue & pet adoptions. You will also receive a phone call from an Applications Coordinator for an interview. After that, it is only a matter of time before you are notified to tell you if you have been approved to adopt a Ratbone dog.

Once you are approved, we will send you an adoption contract to read, sign, and mail back along with your adoption fee ($150 for adult dogs; $175 for puppies under 12 months, $200 for American Hairless Terriers). After your contract has been received, we will begin plans to get your Rattie home to you! We usually arrange a ground transport, with a network of volunteer drivers. If the distance from the fosterhome to your home is greater than 600 miles, however, you will be asked to pay for the dog to be sent by air.
