We are a non-profit private animal shelter, founded in 2002. We operate solely on donations with a mostly volunteer staff. We typically take in about 800-1,000 animals per year and pay vet bills, cleaning supplies, building rent, etc. solely on donations. We are a no-kill shelter. Most of our animals reside at our shelter but some are also in foster care. We are in a rural area with a huge pet overpopulation problem due to people not spaying or neutering animals, lost, abandoned and/or unaltered hunting dogs, abandoned, unaltered cats and feral cat colonies. We also have many people who relinquish pets because of hard economic times. We work closely with Mecklenburg County Animal Control to save as many animals as possible.
We are in the process of building a new shelter which will have many improvements over our current residence. We have an anonymous donor who has agreed to match all donations toward the building fund up to $100,000 before December 31, 2014.

We serve primarily Mecklenburg County, VA, but routinely take in animals from other surrounding counties in Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina. We network with other rescue groups to try and find the ideal adopting families for our animals.
Additional adoption info
We ask for a $75.00 donation for an adult dog, $100 for a puppy, and $10 to $35 donation for a cat, depending on age/shots given. If sexually mature, the animal will be altered and have it's rabies shot and other typical vaccinations appropriate for its age before the adoption occurs. Our adoption contract states that any sexually immature puppy or kitten adopted must by spayed or neutered by law within 30 days of becoming 6 months old, failure to do so is punishable by law. Cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, and dogs are tested for heartworms and intestinal worms. Animals are thoroughly treated for any positive findings or health conditions before they are eligible for adoption.
