Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue

Dog rescue in Topsham, ME

Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue is a small non-profit public charity. We are State inspected and licensed and located in Topsham. We have dedicated volunteers working throughout Maine and New Hampshire. It is the mission of Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue to work for the prevention of cruelty to animals, specifically stray, abandoned, abused, or owner-surrendered Great Danes, by providing temporary sanctuary for these animals pending their adoption into permanent homes. Our adoption process is lengthy to insure that we make a good match between dog and family. Rescue dogs have already had at least one other home and we strive to make their next one the last one. We remain in touch with the adoptive family and follow up for the life of the dog! It is our goal to educate the public about this magnificent breed.

Additional adoption info

The adoption process starts with an application to adopt. We do a telephone interview as well as a home visit. We ask for and check references and we arrange for the prospective owner to meet the dog. We then schedule a time for the new person to take ownership of the dog. We seldom adopt to families with very small children. A fenced yard is preferred but each case is looked at individually. Once placement is approved, the new owner signs a contract. We keep in touch with the dog for the remainder of it's life, so we're always there to help. In most cases our adoption fee is $350, all dogs are neutered, vetted and up to date on vaccinations.
