Rescue FAQs

We primarily serve Fairfield County and the Town of Winnsboro, South Carolina. However we also serve other counties and areas when we have sufficient funding & foster home space available. Most of our animals come from high kill shelters..We will adopt throughout the SE if a rescue group is available in your area to do home visits.

Additional adoption info

Anyone interested in adopting one of our pets should contact us for an interview. We do have a questionnaire and an adoption contract and a home visit is also required before a potential adopter is approved. Our adoption donation for dogs should be noted in the biography of the dog which includes their current shots, microchip, and spay/neuter. Our regular adoption donation for cats is $120.00 which includes current shots, microchip & spay/neuter. We do have some dogs and/or cats that may have a higher adoption donation. In this case the adoption donation amount will be noted in the description of the pet. Sunset Animal rescue increased the donation amount for dogs in 2009 due to increased costs for food, spay/neuter, medication, gas, etc. We do prefer that all adoptive families for dogs have a securely fenced yard.
