We are not breeders. We rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Shelties who have lost their homes for a variety of reasons. We have a passion for the Sheltie breed and want to make sure they are safe in loving, competent homes. 65% of the shelties coming into our prgram have been given to us by their owners to ensure they are adopted into responsible, sheltie loving homes.

NorCal Sheltie Rescue, an affiliate of the American Shetland Sheepdog Association Rescue Network, is NOT a shelter. We are volunteers throughout Northern California who take homeless shelties into our homes to foster. We get them veterinary care to: ensure vaccinations are current; get them heartworm tested, spayed or neutered and care for any other health issues before placing in approved homes throughout the entire Northern California area, from Bakersfield north to the Oregon border and from the Pacific coast to the State line.
Additional adoption info
Rescue Shelties are first placed in volunteer foster homes to prepare them for adoption. Foster care includes vet exams, vaccinations, any necessary treatments, regular exercise, and temperament evaluation. All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to placement. NorCal Sheltie Rescue screens and approves all applications prior to placing a rescue dog in a permanent home. Once the dog is placed, frequent follow-ups are done to insure that the match is successful for both the dog and the adopters.
Also required is a home with a securely fenced yard. yard. Fees are based on the age of the dog from $450 for those up to 3 years old, to $150 for seniors 10 years or older.
