Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) is based in Coal City, West Virginia. We are a small, no-kill, 501(c)3 organization. RCAR is not affiliated with the Raleigh County Humane Society/Shelter. We foster in our homes and are limited to the number of animals we can take in. We are dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Our efforts are guided toward finding permanent homes for our animals. Please be sure your animals have on their ID tags at all times. Along with this, we stress the importance of neutering and spaying all pets.
RCAR does require potential pet guardians to fill out an adoption application. If your application is approved, you will be required to sign a contract that states the pet is to be spayed or neutered when age appropriate. Also, new guardians are to provide future vet care and allow RCAR to check on the pet in the future. The adoption price on each pet varies. RCAR reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone RCAR feels is unsuitable to adopt.
We are always in need of new members and volunteers. We need foster homes, volunteers to help out at adoptions, rummage sales, and other fund-raising events. We accept donations of cat and dog food, stainless steel food bowls, cat litter, collars, leashes, cleaning supplies, clean towels, blankets, cat & dog toys, pet taxies etc. Every little bit helps! Any of these items can brought to any of our adoptions/events or can call 304-228-9047 to schedule a pick up of your donated items. One of our volunteers will call you back within 72 hours.

We are located in West Virginia and are happy to adopt our pets out to someone who wants and can provide a healthy and happy home for a needy animal both locally and out-of-state. We do not ship our pets. Sometimes transport can be arranged but it is at the expense of the adopter. Transport arrangements must be made with the foster parent.
Additional adoption info
Our adoption fees vary for puppies/dogs, cats/kittens depending on vet cost, and length of time in foster care. Our dogs are up to date on shots, are on fleat treatment, dewormed and if over the age of 6 months have been spayed or neutered. Our cats have been feline leukemia tested, up to date on shots, dewormed ,on flea treatment and if over the age of 6 months have been spayed or neutered. The adoption contracts states the adopted pet must be spayed or neutered within thirty days of the adoption if the pet is sexually mature; or within 30 days after the pet reaches 6 months of age if the pet is not sexually mature at the time of adoption; both of which are at the owner's expense. Spay/Neuter the adopted pets of West Virginia - IT'S THE LAW!
If for some reason, the adopter is unable to keep or care for the pet, the adopter must get in contact with RCAR and give us first option of reclaiming the pet. If the adopter does not comply with the Adoption Contract as described above (within the limited time the law allows), the adopted pet shall be reclaimed by RCAR and legal action shall be taken towards the adopter. The adopter also understands that adoption fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
We are staffed by volunteers, many who have full time jobs. We try and answer all phone calls and emails within 72 hours.
