Southside SPCA is a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter in south central Virginia, in operation since 1975, serving 12 rural counties , and run entirely on donations.
We are located 60 miles west of Richmond. We provide love, humane care and shelter for abandoned animals and strive to provide them with loving, responsible homes.
We do not believe in euthanasia as a means to control the pet overpopulation problem.
We promote spay/neuter programs and do our best to educate the public about this ever-present problem. No animal leaves our shelter's system unaltered. Please spay and neuter your pets. This is the only way to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable pets.
Dogs: We do not use any extreme temperament tests. Our dogs are carefully evaluated, if there are any behavioral problems they are addressed prior to adoption.
We can always use volunteers! Please email the shelter with volunteer in the subject line. Just a few hours a week is a big help.
You can sponsor a dog or cat at the shelter thru our PAWS Program. In return for your monthly donation, you will receive a letter each month from your dog or cat. For more information, please visit our website, www.southsidespca.org or contact the shelter at email info@southsidespca.org.
