IOW Humane works with our county animal control/shelter to take adoptable animals that are due to be euthanised because "their time was up" . Once in our custody, animals are placed in foster homes. They are given whatever medical care they need, which includes having them altered. They are then made available for adoption. We have made a huge difference in the adoption rate at our shelter and Isle of Wight Animal Control has one of the lowest euthanasia rates in the state.

Additional adoption info
We require adopter to meet the pet they are interested in. We have an interview to determine if the particular pet is compatible with the new family. We require a fenced yard for most dogs and proof of home ownership or a PETS ALLOWED lease.
Once approved, new owner signs a legally binding contract that states they are not allowed to sell or give away the animal.
Adoption fees can vary depending on how much we have had to invest in the animal to ready it for adoption , but are a maximum of $150.00 for dogs and $ 65.00 for cats.
