American Brittany Rescue - Michigan

Dog rescue in Clay Twp, MI

The American Brittany rescue was formed in 1991 as a cooperative effort of Brittany owners/breeders/trialers and fanciers who believe we have an obligation not only to our own dogs and the dogs we produce, but to all the dogs of our breed. The purpose of the American Brittany Rescue is to take in stray, abandoned, surrendered and/or impounded Brittanys, provide them with foster care, health and temperament screening, offer an opportunity for rehabilitation if necessary, assure their good health and place them in new homes. Some rescue volunteers are able to foster dogs whild looking for homes, some can't foster, but keep lists of dogs available and people looking for dogs and do referrals. Others do transportation or help in other ways. There are currently nearly 600 ABR volunteers in 46 states and Canada.

Rescue FAQs

The Michigan Brittany Rescue is a charter member of the Amercian Brittany Rescue Organization. We are a non-profit org that spans the country and assists our fellow members in other states as the need arrises. We have many lovable Britts in Michigan and other states who could benfit from either a new forever home or donations to help us continue our efforts.

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are thoroughly interviewed utilizing three or more of the following methods: written application, phone interview, home visit, face-to-face interview and vet reference check. The goal is to place all rescued Brittanys in homes that are breed-appropriate and specifically appropriate to each individual animal. All Brittanys rescued shall be tested for heartworm, vaccinated against DHLPP and Rabies and will be wormed if necessary. Each rescued animal is required to be sterilized prior to placement and veterinary records of other pets in prospective homes will be reviewed prior to placement. Adopters are required to be at least 18 years old and a written ABR adoption contract and Dog Information sheet which fully discloses all health and/or temperament information about each rescued Brittany will be provided. If for any reason the adoptive family becomes unable to keep their dog, Brittany Rescue will take the dog back or assist in finding a new adopter. The base adoption donation will range from $175 - $250 depending on veterinary rates in the area and to be decided on by the coordinator of the state.
