The Yadkin County Humane Society (YCHS) was established in October of 1990. A handful of members reorganized and YCHS began to gain momentum as an active organization in February 0f 2003. Since that time, the membership has grown steadily.
Yadkin County is rural – rabies is more prevalent, and fewer companion animals are vaccinated and altered than in more urban areas. In order to combat these problems, we work diligently to see that low-cost spay/neuter and rabies clinics are available, and our members provide foster care to animals that would otherwise be euthanized until they can be adopted into loving, responsible homes.
YCHS is a volunteer organization. We do not have a shelter or office space. All animals available for adoption are in foster homes with our members. Since we do not have staff or a building, our administrative costs are very low. This means more of the funds raised and donated go to the care of the animals.
Hundreds of dogs and cats are rescued and adopted through Yadkin County Humane Society each year. Adoptable animals may stay in foster care with us weeks, months, even years before they find their forever home. With your help, through adopting, fostering, and donations, more animals can be saved.

We primarily serve the residents of Yadkin County, North Carolina, although we do help in surrounding counties when we are financially able to do so as well.
Additional adoption info
We have an application we ask all prospective adopters to complete and require a veterinary reference. If you've never owned a pet before, or it's been so long that your vet no longer has records for you, we request three personal references from people who are not related to you. We prefer that at least one of them is a pet owner.
Our adoption fees are $60 for kittens/cats and $100 for puppies/dogs. This includes de-worming, age appropriate vaccinations, and the spay/neuter.
