Barkin Rescue pulls dogs from rural shelters. WE ARE NOT A GROUP THAT ACCEPTS OWNER SURRENDERS. We place each dog in private foster homes where they will stay until the forever home is found. Barkin Rescue is located in rural, Southwestern Ontario. We are NOT a shelter facility and do not keep dogs in a kennel situation, we are not an open to the public operation. Our rescued dogs are mostly rural dogs, often unsocialized and treated quite poorly, not walked on leashes or cuddled, not taught about proper manners or even housetrained. Our dogs were previously outside only dogs or chained dogs, making them a higher risk for many common canine ailments. We are striving to change the way rural dog owners view their pets, we are trying to help folks understand the benefits of owning a dog as a household pet only. It is important we get our message out about having pets spayed or neutered as well. When they come into our care, we work hard with the dogs so they learn to trust again and feel confident again. Barkin has all adult dogs over six months of age, altered, vaccinated, dewormed(where warranted) and as of June 9th/2006, all adult dogs will be heartworm tested. We also treat for fleas and ticks. Barkin also makes sure any other obvious ailment afflicting a dog is treated. We thank ELGIN ANIMAL HOSPITAL for their part in aiding us reach our goal of helping as many dogs as we can. As of recent and when warranted, we have a dog's behaviour assessed by a trained professional to offer techniques most effective and ideas for what kind of home will suit the dog best. We thank K-9 Concepts for their help in this area. We do not operate as a registered charity, but however are a not for profit group. We operate solely on adoption fees alone and some generous donations from animal loving supporters. It's very important for folks to understand we DO NOT adopt our dogs as outside dogs only. Your house is their house...NO EXCEPTIONS. These dogs have been through enough...this is their second chance at a better life, they deserve to be the household pet only, loved and cherished for the rest of their lives. We stand very strong in our belief and no amount of lecturing or debating will change our views...thank you for understanding our position on this.
