Adoption Guidelines

We are a small and very busy rescue group and do not have a shelter, but house our dogs and cats in foster homes and kennels in New York City, the Hudson Valley and Fredericks, Pa. We show our rescued animals by appointment only.

If you are interested in adopting a dog/cat from us, there is a process you will need to go through.

Please think carefully about the time you have available to devote your new friend and be ready to adopt for a lifetime. While we do stand ready to rehome a pet you adopt from us if it doesn't work out as well as expected, it is best for the pets to find their permanent homes right away, and it is our goal to make good matches the first time around.

The first step is for you to submit a completed adoption application (can be obtained from us by emailing us at straysFTheights@aol.com) to see if the pet might be a match with your household. We do not operate on a "first come first serve" basis but evaluate all applicants and decide what is best for the pets we rescue. This is not meant to discourage you in any way, but simply to be clear that we must make the tough decisions about where our pets go, and we sometimes have to turn down applicants. We must weigh a variety of factors, such as lifestyle, type of housing, number of children in the home and ages, other pets, to determine which placements are appropriate. Prior to finalizing the adoption, a home visit will be required so we can see where the pets would be living and get better acquainted with you.

Thanks for considering a rescued animal!
