Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program is based out of Moncton NB; the Hub of the Maritimes. We were formed in 2003 by a group of local Greyhound Adopters, who felt the need for an adoption group in this area. Our central location makes Moncton the perfect spot for the organisation to be based out of. Although we are New Brunswick based, we can place Greyhounds anywhere.
We, the members of this organization, all have the same agenda and goals for this group - To save the most Greyhounds possible, and to place them in loving permanent homes.
We strive to give these amazing animals the exposure and recognition they deserve and to create awareness for the need of adoption. We work together to serve the Greyhound to the best of our abilities.
MGAP is very unique and extremely fortunate to have its President, Deb
Levasseur, certified as a "Canine Behavior Therapist". She offers all
counseling services free of charge to ALL MGAP members. She is also
certified in Canine first Aid as well as Obedience training. We also have an
extremely knowledgeable team of support volunteers who are always eager and
happy to help.
MGAP also gives each new adopter a free training session (approximately 2 hours) which includes such topics as:
What to expect; and how to deal with all the adjustment issues of your new
Greyhound, how to avoid separation anxiety and create a happy self confident
and well adjusted dog, how to get your dog to heal on the lead, children and
the new Greyhound, feeding, grooming and much more. This extensive training gives the new adopters the knowledge and confidence necessary for a grey't start and a wonderful and long lasting relationship between the family and the Greyhound.
We pride ourselves on our reputation and integrity which is all based on our
love and passion for the retired greyhounds; for their sakes, we will never
compromise our standards.
