The CSRA Humane Society is the only limited-admission "no-kill" shelter in the greater Augusta, GA area. We house approximately 125 cats and dogs on any given day, taking in pets as we have space available. All pets are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, plus their shots are current, they are microchipped, and they are kept on preventatives for fleas/ticks and heartworms (dogs). We believe that all pets are valuable and that there is someone out there who will be the perfect match for any pet we have.

Additional adoption info
Adopters must be at least 21 years old, be the primary named tenant/owner of the address at which the pet will live, and have a source of income to support the needs of themselves and the pet.
Potential adopters meet with a trained counselor who knows the personalities of the pets. If there is a good match between a pet and a person/family, the person completes an adoption application. We may need to call a vet to verify the health and sterilization of any current pets in the home; we may need to speak with a landlord to obtain consent to bring a pet into rental property; and we may need to inspect the home to ensure the adequacy of fencing and general home environment. We reserve the right to drop in unannounced to check on the pet at any time after the adoption.
We strongly recommend fenced yards for dogs (unless the dog is a toy breed who will be walked 3 times a day). We do NOT allow dogs to be left outside alone all the time. No dog may be chained up, left on a runner, or kept in a small enclosure. Dogs should be part of the family and in the home with the people they love. We do not allow tail docking, ear cropping, or de-barking for any reasons. Anyone wanting to adopt a pit-type breed will have a home visit as a mandatory requirement and must be at least 25 years old.
Cats must be indoors only. We do NOT permit declawing for any reason as this is an inhumane mutilation. We occassionally have cats surrendered who have been declawed for those people who insist on this antiquated procedure.
Existing pets in a household must be sterilized already, current on vaccinations; dogs must be on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives; cats must have a negative test for feline leukemia and FIV.
