The Martin County Humane Society, assisted by the City of Fairmont, operate the Carl Nettifee Memorial Animal Shelter. The shelter serves as a haven for stray animals in Martin County and Fairmont along with animals surrendered by citizens of Martin County.
The MCHS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the care of homeless animals with the purpose of placing them in suitable adoptive homes.
The shelter is funded partially through city and county funds. A substantial amount of the funding though is through donations to the MCHS.
The MCHS is managed completely through volunteers with 2 part time moring employees. Volunteers are always welcome and needed. They contribute through cleaning; care, socialization, and exercise of the animals; fund raising; transporting animals; fostering; staffing the office and other important work.

Additional adoption info
Our adoption fee is varied per animal. If the animal you are adopting is not yet spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract that you will have that done. You will also receive a $25 sterilization rebate to help defray the cost.
All adoptors are asked to complete an application with references requested. Applications and references are checked in an effort to ensure that each animal goes to a loving and safe home that is willing and capable to care for it properly. Applications may be requested at our email address
pawprints01@hotmail.com
this allows adoptors from a distance to be approved before they make the trip to our shelter.
We do adopt out of the area, but do not allow our animals to be flown to their new home.
