The Animal Services department encompasses the many facets of the city's Animal Control Service and the Animal Shelter. We strive to educate the community on animal laws, ordinances, as well as ongoing education and information on various local animals. We also provide avenues for animal vaccinations and licenses.
The animal shelter houses about 56 dogs and puppies and 24 cats and kittens daily. An average of 180 animals pass through the shelter monthly. These animals come from the City of Lockhart and Caldwell County. The animal shelter is funded through the budgets of the City of Lockhart, Caldwell County, and various donations.

Additional adoption info
Animals available for adoption at the Lockhart Animal Shelter can be found at www.petfinder.com or on the Facebook Page for Lockhart Animal Shelter.
A stray animal is kept 72 hours from time of admission to the shelter and then is either put up for adoption or euthanized. Approximately 50% of the dogs and puppies and 30% of the cats and kittens are adopted. The new owner must sign an adoption agreement, which outlines the requirements for adoption. These include providing basic care for the animal, obtaining a rabies vaccination as required by law and having the animal spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption or by the date outlined in the contract. These are requirements set forth by state statute and failure to do so is a Class C Misdemeanor.
