Free Spirit Siberian Rescue

Dog rescue in Harvard, IL

Free Spirit Siberian Rescue has been helping homeless Huskies and Husky mixes since 1999. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue located in northern Illinois, dedicated to placing our dogs in permanent, loving homes. By adopting a homeless pet, you will be giving two animals--the one you adopt and the other that will have a place available at our rescue--a second chance at life.

We operate solely from donations and are volunteer driven. Please mail all donations to Free Spirit Siberian Rescue
P.O. Box 626
Harvard, IL 60033

Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Please visit our website for more information about how you can help.

Rescue FAQs

We adopt to all areas within a 4-hour drive of Harvard, Illinois. You must be 21 or over. You current dog(s)/cat(s) must be spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all vaccines, on Heartworm prevention medication, and kept inside as indoor family members.

Additional adoption info

We review and pre-screen applications in the order they are received. If we have any immediate questions or concerns, we contact you by email. If the application looks good on paper, we have one of our Adoption Coordinators call for a phone interview. We'll check references (including landlord and vet if appropriate). Depending on the responsiveness of the references, this step can take some time. Our adoption screening process allows us to get to know you and your family, so that we can make informed suggestions about dogs that would best suit your personality, lifestyle, and household (including other adults, kids, current dogs, and cats).

If you are approved for adoption, we'll then arrange a time for you to come to the rescue and meet some of the rescue dogs. Because we are an all volunteer run organization, we need to schedule a time for you to visit the rescue. Appointment times are limited and are reserved for individuals/families who have been approved for adoption. We require all household members, including current dogs, to be present at the appointment. The meet and greet helps to ensure that the dog is a good match for your family in general and any current dog(s) in particular. Current dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines, on Heartworm prevention medication, and kept inside as indoor family members (per the terms and conditions of our Adoption Contract).

We cannot hold dogs and cannot guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of the appointment. We also suggest that you review our website (http://huskyrescue.org/rescueanimals.php) for the most current information and do your best to identify a few dogs that you may be interested in. Additionally, if you can explain why you've selected them that also helps us to identify the characteristics that are most important to you which will assist us in making a better match between you and a potential dog.

If an adoption match is made, you should be prepared to provide a deposit by cash or check. A minimum of ½ of the adoption fee is required. Note that adoption fees vary by age of the dog. Please visit our website for a detailed scale and information about what the adoption fee covers.

You will then schedule a delivery date. The dog will be groomed prior to going home and delivered at a later scheduled date with all medical records. Dogs will not be delivered the same day as the adoption appointment. We must transport the dog to you in order to do a home inspection at the time of delivery.

If you meet the above requirements with your current dog/cat, are over 21, within a four-hour drive of Harvard, IL and are interested in adopting through us, please fill out an application at http://huskyrescue.org/index.php.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at adoptions@huskyrescue.org.

We look forward to receiving your application.
