Shelter FAQs

The Humane Society of Seneca County works with all of Seneca County. We are the only entity to take in cats, therefore we are typically filled to the top with cats. We usually have on any given day about 60 cats in our building. If the dog is a stray it will proceed to the Dog Wardens office right down the road. Also, the Humane Society takes in surrendered animals as well. In this fallen economy we have definitely had an increase on surrendered animals in the past year or two. Unfortunate times cause unfortunate decisions. People are having to downsize and many places do not accept pets, which you guessed it, they come here.

Additional adoption info

We always love for the potential adopters to come and visit with an animal to make certain that it will match their personality. There is an adoption application form that must be filled out, once this is done it is usually a 24 hour process. Once the application is approved, the animal, if not already, must go to our vet here and get either spayed or neutered. After these procedures are finished then the animal may go home.
For adoption of a dog prices vary with the age of the dog: Puppies 8 Weeks to 6 months are $235, Puppies ages 7 months to 11 months are $185, Adult dogs 1 year to 7 years are $110, and senior dogs 8 years and up are $35. They are given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, given flea treatment, tested for heartworm, given heartworm preventative, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving our facility. Cat adoptions also vary with the age of the cat: Kittens 8 weeks to 6 months are $85. Cats 7 months to 7 years are $60, and cats 8 years and up are $35. They are given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, given flea treatment, tested for feline Felv/FIV, given heartworm preventative, microchipped and spayed/neutered before leaving our facility.
