Southern Shih Tzu and Toy Breed Rescue is based in Louisiana and Alabama. We do rescue the good ole fashion way- We rescue dogs from kill shelters and puppy mills and place them in thoroughly screened forever homes- After the dog received FULL vet care and social/behavior evaluation, allowing us to match your family and our dog to the right forever home. We believe there is a home for every dog in need of a home, we just have to find the family willing to open their hearts and home. We are a 501c3 non-profit charity and all volunteer organization-

Rescue FAQs

We are located in central AL and LA- we post our dogs in metro areas and states in the northeast- WHY? we get very few adoptions in the south and have to post our babies in more metro areas or northern states in order to find them homes (allowing us to save more lives) Most rescues in the north transport their dogs in from the south before they are adopted (to parking lot adoptions some straight from shelters)- we prefer not to transport them until they're going to a forever home- after they've been in foster care and have a clean bill of health from the vet- We can tell you all about their personality, habits and social behavior- They are transported via PETS, LLC a professional transport service that charges $150- we have used them for years ! ALL dogs travels with a health certificate -

We are very selective when placing our dogs. OUR goal is to have successful forever adoptions, by matching you with a dog that fits your family needs, as well as our dog's needs. First Step in the process is to submit an online adoption application! Home visits are done at our discretion and in most adoptions.
