Animal Tails Rescue (ATR) was established in 2015 as the only pet rescue within the County. There is no humane shelter or other entity operating locally to care for abandoned, stray, neglected or abused animals. Prior to ATR, homeless animals roamed the countryside and were often killed, maimed, or died of hunger. ATR is solely run by volunteers who are devoted to animal welfare. During 2021, ATR rescued nearly 1,000 dogs and cats. The preponderance of them have been able to find their forever homes via transport or adoption. Now, one seldom sees stray animals at large on county or city streets and it has been due to the work of ATR and its tireless volunteers.

Additional adoption info
Animal Tails Rescue is a small rural rescue. As such, we are not automated in many ways, although word of mouth is a very effective mode for spreading information when people want to adopt a cat or kitten. They often visit the Rescue during our open hours, inquire and complete the application process. We also maintain a strong partnership with PetSmart and another local pet store where many feline adoptions take place. While we also rescue canines, we have a strong network of other rescues in parts of the country where adoption of canines is more feasible than it is locally.
