We are a Not for Profit Group of Volunteers who are committed to helping, saving, relocating to rescue and rehoming the Discarded, Abandoned and Injured dogs of Bakersfield, California.
Dogs that Animal Control have turned their backs on and Closed their doors to. These Scared domesticated Souls are dumped and left to fend for themselves in the 400sq mile radius of desolate Agricultural Land in Bakersfield. Many Dogs are sick from feeding on the deceased farm animals also dumped, some starving, some used as target practice, some are intentional hit by a car, and some are already dead when they have been dumped. There is no way to describe the volume of sadness and horror we witness on a weekly basis.
A Day in the Life of Saving Dai is to travel, track and document the dogs, we have numerous water and feeding stations set up throughout the area and provide food and water for the dogs. During winter we provide shelter and blankets in the abandon buildings where the dogs hide.
As space is becomes available within rescues, we trap the dogs and get them transported to the Rescues, there is NEVER enough help or space. There are 100's of Dogs out there who need us! There are New Moms and Litters of puppies being born because Animal Control refuses to Mandate Spay and Neuter laws in Kern County. And if they would have done it 100 years ago they wouldn't be considered one of the highest kill shelters in the USA. and we need help!, Calling and complaining to Animal Control is not an option, as we do not want the dogs harmed and they know they are the reason for it happening!! There is NOTHING Humane or serving as Animal Welfare within CA Animal Welfare Associaition where our Kern County Director of Animal Servies serves on a the Board of Directors! How does that make sense?
But we can truthfully make this statement.
In 4yrs, we have NOT had ONE single dog taken in that was diseased, no parvo, no distemper., they all have had healthy immune systems, Fleas and Ticks, Matted, Stinky fur YES! but NO diseases have been reported, A priority that we request response to once the dogs reach their destinations. Majority of the dogs are Large Breed, MANY are purebred! German Shepherd, Husky, Queensland, Border Collies, Great Pyrenees, Gampr, Bullys....
From being terrified, on guard 24/7 wondering if you will be fed tomorrow or be hunted, or find shelter to sleep, filthy and alone - To being bathed/groomed, fed and a warm bed or crate and feeling LOVE.and to watch that transformation is Priceless... Dogs have souls, feelings, brains, often times more intelligent than some humans
Please visit us on Facebook for their stories.
SDR will spay/neuter and vaccinate the dogs and/or Rescues will Spay & Neuter We have NEVER had an aggressive dog! Including Bully Breeds. They are all so sweet, and grateful to be saved, they have all been very loving and social - scared, yes, but once they see the 2nd chance at life, and are shown the love they deserve, have food and shelter, the dogs just continue to amaze us and have been incredible beings.l
