Story
Vincent is a male cat that was adopted as a stray kitten for about 15 years. There was a very unexpected death to his owner. My daughter took Vincent in bc he had nowhere to go on such short notice. The problem is that my daughter will be moving back in with me (to Maryland) and I am allergic. If someone would open their home to him, we would be greatly appreciative.

Story
Valentino is 4 years old and turning 5 in October! He enjoys cuddles, heated blankets, rolling in cat nip and exploring. He hates being trapped, getting his nails trimmed and baths. He has been an indoor/outdoor cat for the last 3 years and prefers to spend his days adventuring but always comes home before dark. He is wonderful with kids.He has never bit or hissed at anyone. He is very skittish around dogs though. He’s is a quiet cat but very talkative if he is in a crate. My family is hoping to find a wonderful home for him❤️

Story
Chloe is 1 year-old Domestic Shorthair mix who weighs 7 lbs. She was surrendered to CHA when her owner could no longer care for her. Chloe loves people, and she will reach through the door of her cat condo to wave at everyone who visits the cat room. She wants all the pets and affection, and will quickly roll over when you give her head scratches. Chloe is such a friendly girl, and she can`t wait to find the loving home that she deserves.

Story
Storm is a 3 year-old Domestic Shorthair mix who weighs 7 lbs. She was surrendered to CHA when her owner could no longer care for her. Storm is an inquisitive, adventurous girl who enjoys running around the cat room. She is very sweet and enjoys being pet, although she can sometimes become overstimulated. When overstimulated, she might swat or try to bite. Storm would likely be best in a home with more mature children who are better able to read her signals and who are old enough to understand how and when she prefers to be touched. If you`re looking for a loyal companion, Storm could be the girl for you!

Adopting a Munchkin

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Munchkin - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

The discussion about whether it is cruel to have a Munchkin cat revolves around ethical concerns related to their short legs. Opponents argue that deliberately breeding cats for short legs might contribute to potential health issues and compromise their mobility. Proponents, however, argue that Munchkins lead fulfilling lives and adapt well despite their unique anatomy. The debate hinges on responsible breeding practices, ethical considerations, and providing proper care to ensure the well-being of Munchkin cats.

The easiest way to buy a Munchkin would be through a rescue that specializes in Munchkins. A great place to start would be by starting a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Munchkins in your area.

It’s important to note the potential ethical concerns and health issues before buying a Munchkin cat. The breed’s unique short-legged trait is a result of a genetic mutation that could lead to skeletal problems in some cats. Those seeking to adopt or buy a Munchkin cat should consider the potential ethical implications of supporting breeds that have specific physical characteristics that may cause health concerns or other challenges.

It costs around $75 to $100 to adopt a Munchkin cat. Conversely, Munchkin cats from a breeder can be extremely expensive and may fall in the $1,000 to $2,300 range.

Munchkin fun facts

Fun Facts:

Legend has it that this breed owes his unique look to an unlikely pairing between a dachshund and a cat. Not possible, but still a fun idea.

Munchkins have not exhibited any of the spinal problems that are common in short-legged dog breeds such as Corgis and Dachshunds.

The Munchkin's interesting form is thanks to an autosomal dominant gene that causes the cat's bones to grow shorter than normal. Mating two Munchkin breeds together is fatal to the litter.
