My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

http://themuttscouts.wordpress.com

We realize a link to a blog isn't the usual way to begin a profile, but the stories documented there are worth reading, and are far more powerful than we could begin to convey here. We have recently undertaken one of our biggest rescue operations to date, saving 13 dogs from an absolutely horrific hoarding situation. This is one of our survivors.

Meet Seven, once known as "Blue Eyes". This 11 month old, 36 pound stunner is the epitome of resilience. There's a story behind his name:

Seven was one of 130 dogs seized from a single property in truly deplorable conditions. Taken to an already overcrowded animal shelter, they were available only to rescues, who for liability reasons were not even allowed to take them out of their kennels to assess them before rescuing. Our original intention, given the modest size of our rescue, was to pull 2 or 3, believing that with the amount of press the story had gained, other rescues would step in and help, and together we could save all these kids. Sadly, that did not happen. Not many rescues stepped up, so we ended up pulling a total of 13 dogs, 10%, with the help of an amazing team of volunteers and some generous individuals who have helped to offset our overwhelming costs.

Seven was the last dog we saved...we didn't even notice him at first, because although we had been there daily for almost two weeks, he was always hiding in the back of his kennel, as though trying to disappear from this world. On the final day before they were set for euthanasia, there were only 9 dogs left. We put a plea out to all reputable LA rescues, telling them how beautifully our 12 were coming along, and offered to pull one more if 8 other rescues would each do the same.

When we went to fulfill our end of the bargain, Seven, then called "Blue Eyes", made his first appearance, and we fell in love instantly. He would be our dog. As a tribute to those remaining, we decided that his final name would be the number of remaining dogs. We had hoped his name would be Zero. Only one other rescue showed up. So Seven it is.

We are beyond grateful that Seven decided to finally "introduce himself" to us on that fateful day. He has ended up being one of the quickest to socialize, and while he's still gaining trust, he's phenomenal. And making progress daily. He's really just a big, playful puppy, finally enjoying the puppyhood that he never had.

He is very active but gentle, and does wonderfully with children and other dogs. Due to his active nature, he needs to be in a home that offers plenty of security and opportunity for play

This group of dogs, Seven included, has become an absolute force of good. They have inspired people across the country, who follow up daily for updates. They have brought together a team of dedicated volunteers who literally work with them round the clock. This "challenge" that we took on has been rewarding beyond measure.

Seven is ready for his second chance. He's ready for the life that he so richly deserves, but that was almost taken away from him through no fault of his own. Rescuing any dog is incredibly noble and rewarding - this is truly an exceptional and unique situation, and The Mutt Scouts team is dedicated to providing unlimited to support to whomever fosters or adopts one of these dogs.
