Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Baxter is our handsome 8-9 month old Redbone Coonhound mix that was one of Dixie's puppies we rescued in November of 2012. He was adopted out as a 9 week old puppy, but was returned when he became too much for his adoptive family to handle. He is very active, playful and friendly, and is going to need a fun loving home that will be up to giving him plenty of exercise and attention.
Baxter loves to go for hikes and walks on our trail, where he can use his super hound dog nose to sniff around and follow scents. He also enjoys play time in our fenced play yards. He is not the type of dog that could be trusted off leash, as most Hounds are notorious for wandering away when they catch a good scent and are not road saavy. Baxter is a smart dog, and knows basic commands and loves treats. We are still working on his jumping up for attention behavior, but he is learning and knows he gets more attention when he keeps his big paws on the floor.
In his adoptive home, he was living with 3 children under the age of 10 and he was too bouncy and active for them. He is better suited to be in a home with older kids that can handle his activity level. He is crate-trained, leash trained and house trained. Baxter just needs the right person or family to come in and commit to giving him the love and attention he deserves. He has been well behaved with other dogs, and has met some of our shelter cats and has given them plenty of room and respect. Though, he does seem interested in playing "chase the cat" sometimes.
If you are interested in finding out more about Baxter, please contact us or stop by and ask to meet him. He is already neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. He is just waiting for the right match to come in and fall in love with him.
