My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vail is a Bowzer – Basset Hound / Miniature Schnauzer mix. She was born on January 4, 2013 and is expected to grow to be between 15-20 pounds.

Extremely laid back and sweet, Vail wants nothing more than to always be near her people. She is content to sleep next to any family member on the couch or lounge on the floor with the family within sight. She does not like to be left alone and will sometimes cry if she can’t be with someone else. At night, she sleeps in a crate in a bedroom with some of the family, where she is content. When the family is away, she is in her crate. She seems to stay quietly in her crate while the family is away. Vail is in a foster home working on house breaking and does best if someone goes with her outside and stays outside with her until she is done, otherwise she just wants to come back in the house without taking care of business first. She is very quiet and will only bark when startled or when she wants out of her crate. She gets along well with dogs and children. She is very well behaved in terms of puppy behavior – she rarely chews on things that she shouldn't and doesn't do much jumping up on people.

***Her adoption fee is $325.****

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues—and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
