My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is ADORABLE Lucky! He was rescued from a kill shelter when we were on our Rescue Road Trip. The moment we saw him, we knew he was coming home with us. He was sweet from the moment we met! He arrived to his foster home on April 6th. He is 1-1/2 year old and weighs 61 pounds when he arrived. So far, he seems housebroken – no accidents yet - and he kept his crate clean overnight. He did protest for a few moments when he was crated for the night but then settled down and was quiet all night until I came and got him to take him on his morning walk. He enjoys chewing on a bone or a thick knotted rope – he can occupy himself but would much rather interact with his humans. He is very friendly with everyone he meets. He is also not much for barking. He was outside on the deck for about an hour without making a sound. Just looking and sniffing the air in his new back yard. Then lying down and looking off into the distance. He is a sweetheart!

UPDATE: This calm sweet boy rode home in the back seat of the car looking out the window, when I stopped and got out for a few moments – he waited patiently in his seat – no jumping around or barking. He is WONDERFUL on the leash – you can let it hang loosely between you and hold it with one finger. You choose the speed you want to walk and he will accommodate you. When he got distracted by a Robin hopping on the ground, his ears went up and he stood up straight but did not pull. A simple "come on boy" was all it took to get him back on track.
As we get to know this sweet one better, we will update the description.

UPDATE: This loving boy has earned my full trust – he has the run of the house and while he does love to chew toys, he has not damaged anything nor has he had any accidents in the house. He has proven to be housebroken. He has also quickly learned to "ignore" my birds including an african Grey who is not caged. He watches the bird and shows the proper respect. As he is more comfortable in the house he is eating well and looking for more and more affection. We had a house full of company and he was a big hit – even one who didn't care for dogs saw how sweet he is and was not at all afraid of him. He is quiet all night in his crate – even if I have to go downstairs to turn off a light or get something before bed, he stays quiet without being told to. Wonderful on a leash, wonderful in a car, enjoys being brushed or given any attention at all.

UPDATE: This sweet boy sits nicely for his treat and takes it very slowly and gently. I have tested him for food aggression and there is none – you can pet his mouth while he eats, put your hand in his dish or take the dish away – he just looks at you trying to understand why… Lucky comes when called prancing elegantly with his tail sweeping back and forth in anticipation of what is going to happen next.

He is still young and has the good puppy traits (like playfulness and being excited to see you) but is past the destructive chewing and potty accident stages - he is in "move right in" condition. Very easy to have around – interested in what you are doing, but not in the way. If I am busy he will give me space if I ignore his pleading looks and wagging tail (which is really hard to do). If you are interested in this boy, get your application in – and don't delay because I am falling in love!

UPDATE: Maybe Lucky was the wrong name – I think Romeo is more like it. I fell asleep on the sofa and this sweet boy walked up to me gave me one little lick on the cheek and then sat in front of me waiting. I opened my eyes and he looked like he was smiling at me. I sat up and he buried his head in my lap while I stroked his head and neck, his tail swished back and forth the whole time. He is sooooo sweet. He is starting to pay a lot of attention to looking out the front window – still not much for barking. If someone is there he comes to me and does a little whimper. Very easy dog to be around.

UPDATE: 4-16-13 Lucky met a 2 year old girl today – he came in with his head low and sniffed and gave her a little lick on the chin – then when she giggled – he licked her whole face while she laughed. He needs to be taught some manners with very little ones, but there was absolutely no aggression
