Bella is the perfect example of how a loving environment can heal an abused dog and help them to show how wonderful they can truly be.
Looking at her today, no one would ever guess Bella’s past. She loves to play. Show her a leash, and she bounds over, tail wagging in anticipation of going on a walk. Give her a challenging trick to learn, and she’ll amaze you with how quickly she picks it up and how happy she is when she’s praised for doing a great job.
She’s so different from the scared puppy who first arrived after being rescued from an abusive home. Her original owner had taken her away from her mother at only four weeks old and closed her in a crate for up to 20 hours a day. Already alone and scared, she was then beaten with a broom every time she soiled her crate.
Finally after a month of abuse, her owner grew tired of her and tossed her in the yard at only 8 weeks old. A neighbor quickly grabbed her before she could end up in the street and brought her to safety.
Two of our amazing foster homes welcomed her into their families and showed her what life is really supposed to be like. She learned that people can love you. She learned how wonderful it is to get attention. Their dogs taught her all of the things her mother never had a chance to….. how to be a dog. Their children lavished her with praise and taught her tricks.

We believe Bella is a Border Collie/English Pointer mix. She’s extremely intelligent and picks up new skills quickly, so she would love to have a new family with a strong interest in training her. Border Collies are known as one of the smartest dog breeds, and Bella is a perfect example of that.
We’re expecting Bella is be 40 to 50 pounds as an adult. Potential adopters should plan on a medium-sized dog once she’s all grown up. She was working on housebreaking with her foster family before coming to the shelter, but she’s still very young, so she needs a bit of practice still. Expect some accidents in the beginning while she gets the hang of it.
Bella is great with other dogs, both big and small. She also loves cats. She has a great time with the older kids at the shelter.
You can meet Bella at the shelter any time during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday 5 to 8pm, or call 330-397-8270 to schedule an appt to meet her at another time or on another day. She has already been spayed, fully vaccinated, dewormed and flea treated, so she’s reay to join your family right away.
