My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Birthdate: 6/17/12

Gender: Male, neutered

Breed: Rat Terrier/Corgi mix

What do you get when you take a housefull of female dogs and add a new male stray in the neighborhood? One very, VERY happy male.. .. and a whole house of brand new pups!

And that’s exactly the story behind this big bunch of puppy goodness. Their former owner had five female dogs at home, none of which were spayed, but she never thought she’d have a problem since it was a girl’s club.

But one day, she came across a small stray male dog, and he gave her those big puppy dog eyes. She couldn’t resist, so she took him home with her.

Several months later, she was buried in mountains of puppies from all directions and completely overwhelmed. There were six-month-olds.. .. five-month-olds.. .. four-month-olds.. .. six-week-olds.. .. and even newborns. Too bad Daddy couldn’t pay puppy support on all his new kids!

So she put out a plea for help and was luckily referred to New Lease on Life. We agreed to take all of the pups, even the itty bitties, and help her get all of the momma dogs spayed so they didn’t decide to have a repeat performance.

Now there are only a few pups left, still searching for homes, and each one has his or her own personality:

WARSTEINER – The baby of the bunch, Warsteiner is only four months old and loves to play. He’s hanging out in the Cat Room right now, and sometimes we think he believes he is a cat. He loves to watch kitty TV as the cats leap from cat tree to cat tree with his tail wagging nonstop with excitement. And occasionally, when he’s very, very good, a kitty or two will hop in the exercise pen to play with him, which just makes his whole day.

CHRISTINE – When Christine first arrived, she had a birth defect known as “cherry eye” which is basically just a red bulge at the corner of the eye. It made her a bit selfconscious and the kids at the shelter thought it was a little scary looking, but once that was repaired at the vet.. .. that’s when her personality really started to shine. Now she runs and plays with everyone else and begs to be petted. You can’t even tell that anything as ever different about her eye now, and she loves hearing how beautiful she is.

MICHAEL AND JASON- Also known as “da boys,” Michael and Jason are the rough and tumble pair of the group. They’re now living in the Dog Room with the big dogs, and they think it’s the greatest thing in the world. They’re definitely big dogs in little bodies. Whether they’re going up to a little 10-pound dog or a large 50-pound dog towering over them, they’re ready to play.

We believe the pups are all Rat Terrier/Corgi mixes. They’re expected to stay right around 20 to 25 pounds when they’re full grown, so plan on a small dog with a lot of personality.

The pups are not yet housebroken, but we have no doubt that they’ll pick up the concept in no time. Several of the pups from this group have already been adopted, and they’ve all adapted to housebreaking nicely. We recommend crate training as the easiest way to housebreak your new puppy, and we’ll be happy to give you some tips.

All of the pups are currently at the shelter, so you can meet them any time during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday 5 to 8pm. They’ve already been spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, fully vaccinated, dewormed and flea treated, so they’re ready to join their new families right away.
