My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Foster location: Kaysville, Utah

If you are looking for an energetic, playful, Frisbee retrieving dog, then Missy is looking for you!

This beautiful little girl is an 11 month old Blue Heeler/Corgi mix. Her old owners couldn't keep her so they took her to their local shelter. The shelter was full and since Missy had been there the longest, she would have been the first to go. That is where Fuzzy Pawz Rescue stepped in and took her into their foster program. She was just too young and sweet to lose like that. She is staying with a family that has 3 small children, 3 large dogs, plus two cats! She loves attention and to be right where her friends are. Human and fuzzy!

Missy IS a heeler mix and therefore has the heeler tendencies! Herding things that run are one of her specialties! She is very vocal when it comes to one of the other dogs getting in her space and will growl and tell them to back off. She plays very loudly as well. She snarls and growls and at first I was afraid she was going to be dog aggressive, but now that we have all gotten to know each other, it seems that is just how she plays! She is a bit dominant, and would need extra supervision while meeting new animals, but she has never started a fight, not even with my super dominant hound dog! If you are running around she will do the stereotypical heeler, nipping at your heels, move!

We have tested Missy with grabby children and touching her food while eating. She is an angel. In fact, it is hard to even get her to eat; she would prefer to eat out of your hand. When you give her a treat, she takes it from you so gently that she usually ends up dropping it. She's not so nice about it with other dogs, even if she doesn't want to eat right then. However, we feed our three dogs and missy together, only about a foot apart and there has only been warning growls, so like I said, she is just very vocal!

Cats interest Missy and so you would need to supervise their interactions until you know how they are going to do with each other. We have two cats, one that will just sit there and deal with the sniffing dogs. He and Missy get along fine. The other cat isn't so trusting of dogs and hisses and runs. Missy really likes to chase him when he behaves like that. She hasn't harmed him, but she hasn't caught him either, so I can't be sure what would happen if she did. The shelter said that her old owners told them that she got along fine with cats; so most likely, she is just being a heeler! We also have four chickens, and I would not recommend them with Missy. They are in a safe enclosure, but I think if she got the chance, she would get them. She chases them from the outside of the fence and scares them pretty bad.

I don't know much about training Frisbee dogs, but I think if someone knew what they were doing, she could be pretty good at it. She LOVES the Frisbee. Whenever we go out into the front yard, she runs straight over to the Frisbee, picks it up, sets it in front of me and lays down, ready to have it tossed for her. She even catches it in the air sometimes!

Missy is such a good little girl, she is sweet and loving, she doesn't run away when she gets out in the front yard, even when there are joggers running by! She loves to cuddle on the bed and lies at your feet while doing dishes and other house work. She is doggy door trained, and has only had a few accidents since she came to our house, but she may need a little work in her forever home.

She is current on her vaccinations, spayed, house-broken, and knows basic obedience commands. She walks ok on a leash but she does pull a bit. Missy needs a large fenced yard and to be walked daily as she has quite a bit of energy.
