Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTER LOCATION: Boise, ID
Serenity is a 3 year-old Australian Shepherd mix with very short legs, she may be mixed with a Basset Hound, whatever she is one thing is for sure, she is ADORABLE! This girl showed up at a shelter at 3 months of age and was adopted a month later; then at 3 years of age she found herself back at the same shelter when her family decided they no longer wanted a dog (sigh).
Serenity has a very sweet personality, bonds very easily, loves to get attention from people and gives it right back. She love, loves, loves to be pet by anyone willing to do so, belly rubs are a favorite! Serenity is a well-behaved and very smart dog who loves to please! She knows how to sit and lay down. She does pretty well with “stay” for short distances/duration, and walks pretty well on leash. Her recall seems to be pretty good with low distractions, and runs back with enthusiasm when she hears her name.
Serenity loves going for walks where she can use her powerful nose to sniff things out. She will need a securely fenced yard, because once that nose gets onto a scent, she wants to follow it to the end! Serenity needs a home with an experienced dog owner. She's very intelligent, but will be stubborn if allowed to be. But when the behavior is addressed appropriately, she quickly changes her tune and wants to please and get praise.
Serenity's coat will need regular maintenance, and will have to be brushed a few times a week. Serenity loves to play with dogs around her own size, but is not good with dogs that are much smaller than her. She would do best in a home with a dog close to her size (Basset size or bigger). She can be possessive of her toys/food and will try to defend them from other dogs if she feels threatened –she does learn quickly so with some proper correction this can easily change.
This girl can live with a cat or two, but she will try to play/chase if they are rambunctious. She loves playing with balls and stuffed animals, and will entertain herself by tossing them around and chasing them. She is also a very quiet dog, and when her dog companions are barking at the fence, or neighbor dogs are barking at her, she just looks at them and stays calm and quiet.
Serenity is a great family dog. She is really good with kids and loves to play. She loves being out on the lake on the boat, and can swim pretty well (at least with a life jacket on). Serenity recently went rafting and she did great! She was never nervous, even during loud and bouncy rapids. She just got a bit annoyed a few times when splashed hard.
Serenity is a bit overweight and will need to continue to lose more, she is currently at 53 lbs., and should be closer to 45lbs.Serenity will make a wonderful, sweet, and fun-loving companion for her new forever home!
If you would like to add a happy, happy, dare we say happy dog to your household then Serenity is the one for you. Serenity is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on her vaccinations.
