Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Marty Martin looks a lot like an Anatolian Shepherd dog. He is likely to have some German shepherd or Labrador retriever in him, too. His ears are definitely like an Anatolian shepherd or a yellow lab’s.
Marty is very strong and likes to have his own way, soI t hink a person who can work with him and let him know who is boss (in a gentle way!) would be best for this handsome and wonderfully smart dog.
Marty is a very spoiled, beautiful, well behaved fellow – when I say he is spoiled, it is because he LOVES to sleep on the bed, the sofa, or anywhere else where he can cuddle up and be warm and near his humans.
Marty is completely house trained – I never worry about hi doing his business in the house, but since he is just about a 1-year-old puppy, he can be really playful (and amusing!) and will grab your clothes and run out to the living room with a pile of laundry, just to be funny!
He is wonderful with my other dogs – he ispretty much an alpha dog, but still gets along great with dogs of all sizes.
I did some research on Anatolian Shepherds because he seems to have some of that breed in him, and this is what I discovered: the Anatolian is an alert, smart, observant, serious, responsive, courageous, fiercely loyal dog.
Marty has some traits that match the Anatolian Shepherd’s: He is loyal, protective and loving toward his family. He is suspicious of strangers and does not like it when they approach him boldly. In general, Marty does not like to be patted on the head by someone he does not know. If annoyed with something, the Anatolian may snap his teeth, bark, growl, or draw his lips back, but he is generally quiet and calm, and will only sound the alarm if he senses a threat. The Anatolian enjoys children, but sees them as his charge, not his masters. Interactions should be supervised due to the dog's size and strength.
Marty is really, really, smart – he would be a great family dog if he understands who is the alpha – and it isn’t Marty!
He doesn’t bark much at all, he loves to ride in the car, and he comes when he is called. He is a big fellow – maybe 65 pounds (?) and would benefit from some dog training. But in general, he is one VERY good boy who is very good looking, loving, friendly, and fun. He is athletic and a good work out (run, walk, hike) everyday would be great for him.
Marty is neutered, up to date on all of his shots, healthy, happy, and quite a character!
