This gorgeous boy is Mikey, a Presa Canario mastiff. Mikey was found as a stray and brought to the shelter where he quickly became a favorite among the shelter staff. However, due to his imposing looks and large size, he was passed over by potential adopters looking for a "family" dog. If they only took the time to meet him they would have found the perfect new family member!
Mikey is simply wonderful! He is about 4 years old, and 100 pounds. He was obviously cared for very well by his prior owners, and except for being a bit thin he is healthy and happy. He has an awesome temperament, and loves both adults and kids alike, however, due to his size and strength we recommend a home with children over the age of 10. Mikey also loves other dogs and would be fine in a multi-dog household or as an "only" dog. He is fine with cats and does not seem to have a strong prey drive. He doesn't seem too interested in toys, but he is big fan of rawhides and other tasty snacks.
Mikey is very affectionate and loves to be petted and caressed. His tail never seems to stop wagging - he is a big mush! He is very calm in the house and very well-mannered. He knows how to "sit" and "shake" and he is completely housetrained. He is great "off-leash" and comes immediately when called. Mikey is up to date on his shots, neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped and crate-trained. If you are looking for a big dog with an even bigger heart, Mikey is the dog for you!
