Every day, Mabel finds something new to be excited about because every day is another day of wonderful freedom for her.
You definitely don’t want to miss her awesome video!
Only a couple of short months ago, life was not so carefree for this happy girl. She was picked up as a stray by the Mahoning County Dog Pound. Even though it’s obvious she had an owner before (obedience trained, housebroken), she sat there for a full month. Every day, she watched the doors, hoping the next person to come through them would be her family, but they never came, and she spent that long month stuck in a tiny cage.
But that didn’t dampen Mabel’s spirits one bit. When we finally picked her up from the pound, she happily jumped in the car and even stayed nicely in the backseat on her way to the vet for her spay.
From there, she went into foster care for a few weeks, and her foster family adored her. In fact, they almost couldn’t give her up. In their words, she was the “perfect dog.” She loved their kids, walked nicely on the leash, never had an accident and even had a great time playing with their cat.
Now Mabel is at the shelter, and she’s watching the doors again.. this time waiting for her new family. Only this time, she won’t be disappointed.
Mabel is only a year old and full grown at approximately 40 pounds. She knows Sit, Down, Stay and Come. She is also fully housebroken and leash trained.
Mabel adores kids and loves cats. She does get along with dogs but prefers non-dominant dogs who don’t mind a bit of rough play. At the shelter right now, she spends time with a tiny Puggle, and they get along great because Carol the Puggle just ignores Mabel when she gets a little feisty.
We believe Mabel is a Black Lab/Doberman/Bul Terrier mix. Please not that Bull Terriers and Pit Bulls are NOT the same thing. From Wikipedia:
“The Bull Terrier or English Bull Terrier is a breed of dog in the terrier family. They are known for their large, egg-shaped head, small triangular eyes, and “jaunty gait.” Their temperament has been described as generally fun-loving, active and clownish. Bull terriers have appeared as characters in many cartoons, books, movies, and advertisements, perhaps most famously as party loving Spuds MacKenzie in Budweiser beer commercials in the late 1980s, and more recently as Bullseye the Target dog.”
Mabel is already spayed, heartworm tested negative, current on heartworm preventative, fully vaccinated, dewormed and flea treated, which means she has everything she needs except a family to call her own.
You can meet Mabel any time during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday 5 to 8pm, or call 330–397–8270 to schedule an appt to meet her at another time or on another day.
