Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Description: JayJay originally came to MWCR from a shelter, so we don’t know much about his history but we do know that it takes a little time for him to warm up to his human family. It is possible that he was abused or neglected, or perhaps he was just never given much human interaction. We know that shouting and raised voices upset and over stimulate him. Whatever the cause, it has taken him about four months to learn to trust his foster family, and there will be a similar adjustment period when he goes to his forever home. His forever family will need to be patient, but this little guy is well worth the wait!
JayJay gets along beautifully with the other dogs at his foster home, and even though he is small (just 35 pounds) his favorite sport is rough housing with his 100 pound male collie roommate. He also enjoys running and playing with certain doggie friends at the dog park, but he is choosey when picking those friends. For reasons we don’t fully understand, JayJay takes a dislike to some dogs and becomes quite aggressive with them. Because of this, he will need to be carefully introduced to any resident dogs at his forever home, or he may need to be an “only” dog. He is highly prone to chasing cats, so if there are any kitties in his forever home, they will need to be very dog-savvy, and his new family will need to supervise their interaction. A cat free environment may be the easiest solution for all concerned.
JayJay likes children and they like him, but he does have a behavioral quirk that might make it better if his forever home did not include young children. If kids are playing with him and want him to do something that he doesn’t want to do, JayJay will stand his ground and growl. He has never bitten, but he can be very intimidating to young children. His MWCR foster home has consulted a behaviorist and he is making progress with this behavior, but he will need his forever family to continue to consistently work with him. There are children in his foster home and they absolutely love JayJay, so with children who are older and knowledgeable about dogs, he would probably get along well.
JayJay is a smart boy who loves to show off in exchange for treats. He is happy to sit, lie down and give paw if there is something in it for him! He is also ready and able to steal a tasty human snack if one is left within his reach. JayJay is fully housetrained and walks well on his leash. Once he feels comfortable with his people, he will sit faithfully by his master’s side even when off leash. He does, however, like to chase bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks, so a fenced yard is needed to keep him from wandering off in pursuit of adventure.
JayJay is a special boy who is looking for a special home. A canine buddy may help him relax and feel more confident until he becomes comfortable with his new human family, though it will have to be a dog that JayJay has a rapport with. His people will need to continue with the training that was recommended by the behaviorist and they will need to be patient and understand that it will take him some time to get comfortable in his new home. The result of that patience will be a loving, loyal guy who will be the best friend ever.
