My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Birthdate: 11/15/10

Gender: Male

Breed: Scottish Terrier/Miniature Schnauzer mix

Expected Adult Weight: 20–30 pounds

Alpha is only 10 weeks old, but he’s already been through more than most dogs have to bear in their entire lives.

Last Monday, a man was driving down Market Street when he spotted a blur of black fur jump out of a cardboard box by th side of the road, dash across two busy lanes of traffic, and come to a rest in the turning lane. Miraculously, he wasn’t hit.

The man stopped, jumped out of the car and grabbed the tiny puppy then went to check the box. But it was already too late. Inside were two dead puppies who had already died of exposure. Alpha was the only survivor.

Alpha is a tiny guy. He weighs only 7 pounds right now, and is expected to reach only 20 to 30 pounds as an adult. He has slightly wiry fur but the body structure and look of a Scottish Terrier.

Alpha LOVES other dogs and is fascinated by cats. He runs up to new dogs without any fear at all and wants to play. With people, he takes a few minutes to warm up but is quickly learning that he can trust the new people in his life.

Alpha is not yet neutered but will be fixed BEFORE going home with his new family. If you are interested in adopting him, please visit the shelter during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday 5–8pm or call 330–397–8270 to schedule a private appointment. After you meet him, you can fill out an adoption application. Once approved, you must leave a 50% deposit ($100) to reserve him for adoption. He is old enough to be neutered immediately, so he’ll be able to go home with your family in just a few days.
