My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sorcha was adopted to a young man who worked on a farm that ran between 2500 and 3000 head of cattle. He said she was more than he ever hoped for. She has been working cattle for about 3 months. Videos of her working and a new bio written by the young man will be posted soon.
Unfortunately the young man is leaving the farm and feels that Sorcha will not do well in town. I agreed with him and so she is coming back into rescue

.NEW BIO 2/3/2010
Sorcha (pronounced "Circa") is a beautiful 2 year old female Hangin’ Tree Cow Dog. We originally believed that Circa was a boxer/bc mix (because of the way she played with other dogs). However, over the last few months we’ve had an inkling that she might be a Hangin’ Tree Cow Dog - but we did not have an opportunity to herding test her.

Circa was herding tested today (2/3/10) and did very well. She balanced her stock nicely and was a natural. She was tested with sheep, but we believe she would work cattle as well. We believe she is indeed a Hangin’ Tree Cow Dog.

About Hangin’ Tree Cow Dogs : The Hangin’ Tree Cow Dog is a breed of herding dog, bred specifically for it’s ability to work cattle - they natually want to bring cattle to the handler and hold them. The HTCD is a fairly new breed, originating around 20 years ago. The HTCD’s ancestry is a selective mixture of Border Collie, Kelpie, and Catahoula Leopard, and one Australian Shepard. The Hangin’ Tree Cow Dog is a medium sized dog with a relatively heavy bone structure and a short, low maintence, coat. For more information on the breed click HERE (opens new window)

Circa came to us in an emergency situation; she was being mistreated and needed a safe, gentle home immediately. She is surprisingly trusting considering her past. Circa is an extremely loyal dog. She is very loving and so happy to be around people. Circa plays rambunctiously, so she can only go to a home with older children (she could knock someone over and not mean to!).

Circa likes to play with other dogs; but when it comes to pets and snuggle time, she would really prefer to be the only dog - and have all the attention to herself! A home where she is an only dog or with a more submissive male dog would be best for Circa. (she does love to play!) Circa is a wonderful "momma dog" and any puppies that come through her foster home are deemed 'hers' :) She plays very well with the puppies and even 'protects them' from an overly rowdy dog once and a while.

Circa is a very active and energetic dog. While Circa has a vertical leap of about 6 feet she has shown no desire to jump out of an outdoor kennel. She is crate trained and knows a sit and is working on down and solid recall. She will generally come over wiggling when you call her. She very much wants to please. Circa adores going on long walks! Through this fall Tony took her on regular walks and says she is a great walking/jogging partner. Circa really loves Tony - she sleeps in his room at night and when he isn't home, she goes down to his bedroom, just to double-check that he's not there! Circa really likes to be with "her person" and is such a loyal dog. She would be great for a single man/woman as well.

Circa needs a home with an experienced border collie / herding breed owner. We would love to see her go to a farm where she could help with the stock and lay by her person’s feet at night. For herding training, Circa will need a patient and gentle, but firm handler. (due to her previous abuse). Circa is a sweet girl and will be a great, loyal, companion for her person.

Please email Karen if you are interested in Circa.
