My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE 2/7/09: Calvin is a happy boy who is full of energy and would love to have a big yard to run in and someone who would love to teach him some basic commands. We have had him out in the play yard with Cleo and Bradley, and he does fine with other dogs. He is eager to learn and we hope to have him at PetsMart on Archer Road in Gainesville next weekend for the pet adopt-a-thon. If you are interested in him, please e-mail us at spcagainesville@hotmail.com for an application.
UPDATE 2/4/09: Calvin is doing wonderful. He is still at the vet clinic healing from his surgery but he is a very happy-go-lucky boy. He is just a big fun guy! We have not seen any aggression from him towards anyone or any other animal. This guy is going to make someone a great companion since he is so much fun. He would be a lot of fun to work with in an obedience class or to have at the dog park. If you are interested in Calvin, please e-mail us at spcagainesville@hotmail.com

POSTED 1/30/09: Calvin was turned in to our rescue as a stray found by a good Samaritan who unfortunately could not keep him. Calvin looks to be a Mastiff, Great Dane, Black Mouth Cur, mix breed dog. The vet estimates that he is about 3-4 years old based on the tartar on his teeth but we have no way of knowing for sure. He squats to urinate instead of lifting his leg so he may be younger and was just starved. Calvin is very underweight and only weighs 50 lbs but he has a very large head and feet and will eventually weigh at least 70-80 lbs. or maybe more. Poor Calvin was starving. When Clavin was found he was also covered in fleas, infested with hookworms and whipworms, and had multiple puncture and bite wounds on his lips, face, ears, and front legs including a broken tail tip where the bone was sticking out. We wonder if he was used as a bait dog for fighting but he seems very sweet and friendly. Maybe he was just fighting with other dogs over a female dog in heat (he also hadn't been neutered). Either way, until now Calvin has had a very difficult life. Despite everything he has had to endure he is a lover boy. He is just a big, fun, happy pup. Calvin is now neutered. The vet also amputated the tip of his tail and it is now healing. He has to wear a big cone collar to prevent him from licking and chewing for another week but then he should be healed. Lucky Calvin did test negative for heartworms. All of our dogs are vet checked, vaccinated, fecal parasite tested, dewormed, spayed or neutered, and microchipped prior to adoption. Our adoption fee is $100 to help cover some of the medical costs. If you are interested in meeting this terrific dog, please e-mail us at spcagainesville@hotmail.com for an application.
