Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTER LOCATION: Boise, ID
Cali is the sweetest dog. This girl despite her name came to us from Texas via a shelter here in Idaho. She is a 2 year old, Shiba Inu mix (our best guess) who is about 25 pounds and just as cute as cute can be!
We are unsure of Cali’s background but we are going to say it was a bit rough. When she came to her foster home she was afraid of people, loud noises and most anything in the house. She is still a bit of a nervous Nelly when it comes to new people or loud noises; but she is coming along quickly. Calid still runs away and tries to hide when you approach her standing up but if you crouch down and let her come to you she loves a good scratch and cuddle; this also is improving and the sky is the limit with this girl. She has gotten used to the sound of the TV and will even come sit on the couch next to you if she is feeling like a cuddle. She does need to be in a harness when out for a walk because she gets scared when loud cars pass and can back out of her collar, but she has never pulled and walks right beside you. She can walk for miles and once she gets to know you and the area she would make a great jogging partner; she is a huge fan of hiking in the foothills!
Cali is good with cats and other dogs; she will even just back off if another dog shows their teeth or growls at her. She LOVES other dogs big and small. She loves loves loves to play. Toys, chase, body slams… she likes it all. Doggie Daycare was scary the first few times but now she recognizes the building and can’t wait to go play. Cali will need a home with another confident, playful dog for her to continue learning from.
While she is house trained and sits by the door to let you know she wants to go out- She is basically still a little puppy. She needs someone who will help her learn the basic commands (stay, shake, come) and help her burn off some of her extra energy; she recently learned to sit and come when you call her (when it’s quiet and calm). She hates her crate (you have to pick her up and put her in) but she doesn’t whine once she in. She is actually a quiet dog; we’ve only heard her bark a couple times. If left alone for too long she chews on anything she can get her teeth on; this is a typical puppy behavior stemming from boredom - so walks and toys are a must. If left with her foster dog brothers she doesn’t panic, but when left alone even for a quick trip to the store she can be a bit of a destructo dog; flips her water bowl and chews things you never thought she could reach. She also tries to explore through any gap in the fence she can fit through so a secured fenced yard and a crate when no one is home is a must until she settles into her new home and surroundings.
Cali is really a great girl and just needs a kid free home with guardians who are willing to devote a bit of time to her. If you give her your love, attention and patience she will repay you 100 fold; this girl can accomplish anything with the right family.
