My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Pebbles is the consummate lap dog. This affectionate cutie joined us recently from an overcrowded high kill shelter where she had been taken by Animal Control Officers who found her wandering loose in the street. Pebbles seemed a little rattled in the shelter; the stress and Chaos seemed to get to her. She seemed shut down and uncommunicative when we met her initially.

After the mandatory stray holding period had expired, and every attempt had been made to find Pebbles' owners, she was rerouted to us for a second chance at a happy life. Once she was away from the shelter, Pebbles began to blossom in foster care. As we treated her for an upper respiratory ailment, contracted in the shelter environment, Pebbles was extremely easy to handle, and interacted well with our Vet staff . Everybody loves Pebbles: she's calm, sweet and always ready for a hug. She seems to cling tightly to human touch.

Pebbles was described by our shelter contacts as a Chihuahua, but there was no mistaking that Pug mug. Clearly she has a healthy dose of Pug in her DNA, as we see in the foreshortened stout and comical underbite. Our Pebbles has a million-dollar smile, and, the official consensus is that she is a Chi/Pug cross, i.e., a Chug.

Pebbles is a small, lap dog, weighing just 11 pounds. She has a laid-back demeanor, and appears relatively calm. She has none of the Chihuahua hyperness and all of the Pug sweetness. She would be the ideal fit for an adult single or couple, who live a moderately active lifestyle, and enjoy a full-time canine companion. Four years old, Pebbles is an adult dog who could easily be left alone during a work day, and could adapt nicely to an apartment lifestyle. She's not much of a barker and has a moderate energy level that requires perhaps one to two brisk leash walks a day. Otherwise she'd be happy to nap by the fire or snuggle into the lap of her devoted person.

Pebbles prefers peace and quiet over chaos. In a crowded multi-dog foster home, Pebbles hangs back and becomes a Wallflower. We would like to find a quiet environment for her, so that she can be doted upon front-and-center. She could join a quiet family with older, dog sensitive children, but a busy young family with lots of activity and visitors might overwhelm her. She could interact with small children in small doses, under careful supervision, but we think she might feel uneasy in a full-time living arrangement with toddlers. Pebbles is a loving dog, and respectful of strangers, but she needs time to relax and warm up before being 100% comfortable.

Pebbles could easily join a multi-dog home with other calm, well-trained dogs. She would also do well in a cat environment. Pebbles has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health, and is spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
