Here's what the humans have to say about me:
t's hard to imagine this truly beautiful Cairn Terrier/Shih Tzu (we're just guessing on her breeds based on the Texas vet's guess.. whatever the mix..it's great!) in a high-kill shelter in Houston. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Missy's life and nursed her body and spirit back to joy and well-being.
Missy is such a sweet dog with a smile on her face all the time! She loves treats, belly rubs, and car rides. She will walk right beside you without a leash and hardly barks at all. She is initially slightly shy of men, but warms up very quickly. Missy loves to run and play outside, plus she is a great hiker! she has the appropriate amount of energy for an 18 - 24 month old, 11 lb healthy pup (perfect size and age for a family dog-beyond really babyish ways yet young enough for some great play and hiking). She would do well with a family who is home a lot to take walks, play with and make visits to the park - she would love that! She's like to chill on the couch and snuggle, be petted and has never gotten overly grumpy about much of anything. She loves other dogs of all sizes, and cats too.
Missy is a truly smart pup, she has already learned several new commands. She appears to have the silly and very friendly traits of the Cairn while also carrying the lap-loving and more dignified qualities of the Shih Tzu. What a gem of a best friend for a family who wants to include a very cute and sweet dog in their life. She has the potential to be a truly exceptional and loyal companion.
It is Missy's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put her through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Chili has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves 3 shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.
We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Chili as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as she becomes healthily heartworm-free.
Missy does not shed. She will therefore require periodic baths/brushing with great nutrition to keep her coat soft and shiny. Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special and beautiful dog her forever family.
We're currently accepting applications for this great companion. If interested in a new best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
